About Sophia
Dr Sophia Bergen is a highly specialist clinical psychologist. She has worked in mental health since 2007, initially in NHS adult mental health settings providing assessment and therapeutic intervention for depression, anxiety, panic and OCD.
Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2015, Sophia has specialised in the area of learning disability and other neurodevelopmental differences, providing support to individuals, professionals, families and carers. Sophia also regularly completes expert witness work in the area of learning disability for the Family Court and Court of Protection.
As a parent of an autistic child, Sophia brings a rare combination of professional expertise and first-hand lived experience to her work. She is passionate about supporting the psychological wellbeing of other parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) navigating this journey.

Services
As a clinical psychologist and a SEND parent herself, Sophia understands that for many parents and carers of children with SEND, looking after your own mental health often ends up at the bottom of an already overwhelming to-do list. Between the challenge of finding the time, the understandable focus on meeting your child’s needs, and the often prohibitive cost of therapy, accessing support for yourself can feel out of reach.
Sophia believes you shouldn’t have to choose between your child’s needs and your own and you don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to deserve support. She has therefore created a series of flexible, on-demand webinars covering a range of topics related to the psychological impact of SEND parenting. They are designed as an accessible starting point, offering a low-cost, time-efficient opportunity to experience the therapeutic benefit of feeling understood and validated, while also learning practical, evidence-based psychological strategies to support your own wellbeing.

Why I Created These Webinars
A short, personal introduction to the series. Sophia shares her own experience as both a clinical psychologist and a SEND parent, explains what led her to create this programme, and gives you a clear sense of what to expect from the sessions ahead. Free to watch, no commitment required.

Get the free guideStress - SEND Style
SEND parenting carries a level and type of stress that most people around you simply don’t recognise. This session explores what makes that stress distinct — including the hidden, invisible demands that so often go unnoticed by others — and what it does to your body, mind and emotions over time. You’ll learn to recognise your own stress signals, discover a simple yet powerful framework for understanding the balance between demands and coping, and come away with concrete first steps towards shifting that balance.
The Journey - Navigating Through Grief, Adjustment and Acceptance
Many parents of children with SEND experience grief, yet this is something rarely spoken about or acknowledged — which can lead to stigma and feelings of shame. This session names that grief, validates it, and explores what it looks like in this context. We look at helpful models of grief, and untangle what moving towards acceptance and adjustment really means.
Managing Worry
Worry is one of the most exhausting features of SEND parenting — constant, relentless, and often loudest at night when there’s nothing you can do about it. This session explores the uncertainty and uncontrollability inherent in SEND parenting, and how these drive us to worry. It then introduces practical, evidence-based tools to help you manage it, and to give yourself permission to stop. The goal isn’t to stop worrying altogether — it’s to stop worry running the show.
Cognitive Strategies - From Self-Criticism to Self-Compassion
When we’re under sustained stress, unhelpful thinking patterns can add an extra layer of distress on top of an already hard situation. This session introduces common thinking patterns that are particularly relevant for SEND parents, explains how to identify them in your own thinking, and guides you through a practical framework for challenging them — not to think positively, but to think accurately and with greater compassion towards yourself.
Identity and Values
Over time, many SEND parents find that they’ve lost a sense of who they are beyond their caring role. This session uses ACT-based approaches to help you reconnect with what matters most to you — your values — and find small, meaningful ways to live by them even in the midst of everything else. It also explores the question of identity: who you are, what you’ve gained as well as lost, and how to hold all of that with more kindness.
Putting It All Together
The final session brings the whole series together into one coherent framework that you can return to and use. We revisit the key ideas and strategies from each webinar, explore how they connect and support each other, and look at how to keep going with this work in your daily life. A closing session designed to leave you with clarity, practical strategies and hope for the future.

Everything you need to know about the webinar series, from buying and watching to getting support. If your question isn't answered here, please get in touch.
The series is six pre-recorded webinars for parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), plus a free introductory session. Each webinar focuses on a different part of the emotional experience of SEND parenting, including stress, grief and adjustment, worry, helpful thinking strategies, identity and values, and bringing it all together.
The webinars draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and other evidence-based approaches. They're designed to give you practical tools you can use in everyday life, not just theory.
They're for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND, at any stage of the journey. That includes those waiting for an assessment, newly diagnosed, or many years in. You don't need your child to have a formal diagnosis or an EHCP to benefit.
The focus is on you, the parent behind the child. The webinars won't tell you how to manage your child's needs. They're here to support your own wellbeing, so you can keep going.
All the webinars are written and presented by Dr Sophia Bergen, a clinical psychologist (DClinPsy) and a SEND parent herself. They combine clinical expertise with lived experience: Sophia knows this territory both professionally and personally.
No, all the webinars are pre-recorded, so you can watch whenever suits you. You can pause, rewind and come back to them as often as you like. We know time is precious and unpredictable for SEND parents.
Each webinar has around 30 minutes of core content. You're encouraged to do the exercises as you go, which brings each webinar to around 45 minutes. They're designed to fit around family life, and you don't have to watch in one sitting. Pause whenever you need to and pick up where you left off.
The series is designed to build from one session to the next, so watching in order will give you the most benefit. The final webinar, Putting It All Together, draws on everything that came before.
That said, each webinar also stands on its own. If one topic feels particularly relevant right now, you're welcome to start there. If you're unsure, the free introductory webinar is a good place to begin.
Yes. The free introductory webinar gives you a feel for the series and the approach. It also names and validates the emotional weight of SEND parenting, which many parents tell us they've never heard acknowledged before. Watch the free introductory webinar
Not at all. Everything is explained in clear, everyday language, with no jargon and no prior knowledge needed.
The full series is the best value. It's also how the webinars were designed to be used: each one builds on the last, and you'll have all six in one place with a single login.
If you'd prefer to start with one topic, you can buy webinars individually.
Click the Buy button for the full series, or for the webinar you'd like to start with. A secure Payhip checkout will open in a new tab. You'll enter your email address and payment details and create a password for your account. Once payment is complete, you'll have immediate access.
You can pay by debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments are handled by our secure checkout partner, Payhip, and processed through trusted payment providers such as Stripe. Your card details are never seen or stored by us.
Yes. A receipt is emailed to you straight after purchase. Please keep this email, as it also contains your login link.
Yes. When buying for someone else, please use their email address at checkout. Their access is linked to the email address used.
Yes. Schools, charities, parent carer forums and other organisations are welcome to get in touch about group access. Please contact us to discuss options.
Because you get immediate access to digital content, purchases are non-refundable once a webinar has been accessed. If you have a problem with your purchase, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
Straight after payment, you'll see a thank-you page with a Log In button. Click it to go to your dashboard, where you'll find everything you've purchased.
We'll also email you a receipt with a login link, so you can log back in whenever you need to.
Your account keeps your webinars and handouts together in one private place, and protects the content so it's only available to people who have bought it. You only set it up once: if you buy more webinars later, they'll appear in the same account.
You can either:
Log in with the email address and password you used when you bought.
If you've forgotten your password, use the reset password link on the login page and a new one will be emailed to you.
If you can't find your receipt email, check your spam or promotions folder and search for “Payhip”. If you still can't find it, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
You'll have access to the webinars and handouts you've bought for six months from your order confirmation, so you can revisit them as often as you need to during that time. We'd recommend downloading the handouts so you can keep them after your access ends.
You can watch on a phone, tablet, laptop or computer, using any up-to-date web browser. You don't need to download any special software or app. You will need an internet connection to stream the videos.
The videos are streamed online rather than downloaded, which helps protect the content. The handouts are downloadable, so you can save and print them.
Each webinar comes with two PDF handouts that summarise the key ideas and include practical exercises to try between sessions. You'll find them in the same place as the video, inside your account.
Yes. The handouts are designed to be printed or saved to your device, so you can keep them somewhere handy and come back to them.
Of course. You're very welcome to watch together within your household.
No, the login is for your personal use only (as stated in the Terms and Conditions). The webinars are the result of a great deal of work, and each purchase supports this service to keep running. If you think a friend would benefit, we'd love you to point them towards the free introductory webinar, and they can buy access for themselves.
No. The webinars are psychoeducational. They share psychological ideas and practical tools, but they aren't a substitute for individual therapy or assessment, and they don't create a therapeutic relationship.
If you feel you need more personalised support, please speak to your GP or find out more about working with Sophia directly.
Some of the topics, such as grief and worry, may stir up strong feelings. That's understandable and very common. Go at your own pace, take breaks, and give yourself some space after watching if you can.
If you're struggling or need to talk to someone now:
We use your email address to give you access to your webinars and send your receipt. We'll only send you updates and offers if you've chosen to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time. See our Privacy Notice for full details.
Still have a question? Get in touch and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
